Mo Amer netflix 2022
With his huge body and thick beard, the boy, Muhammad Amer, is shopping in a huge American grocery store, wearing the famous American hat. He approaches a woman who promotes food products inside the shop and invites him to eat hummus with chocolate. Muhammad denounces her invitation, saying, "You say hummus with chocolate? you just insulted my grandmother."
The boy is surprised by her superficial information about Palestine, which is similar to the information of many Americans, such as that farmer whom he met and Muhammad complained to him about the phenomenon of theft of olive crops in his original country. The man asks him where are you from? He replied, "Palestine." He thinks that it is the town of Palestine located in the state of Texas before their third friend explains that it is Israel, so the man thinks that Muhammad is an Israeli and greets him with Shalom in the context of several comic situations that the boy is exposed to in the new series "Mo Amer" on Netflix, starring the comedian. American of Palestinian origin, Mohamed Amer, and directed by American director of Algerian origin, Sullivan "Slick" Naim.
The film revolves around the issue of the trauma of displacement experienced by immigrants with their new countries, and the story deals with the asylum of young Mo to Houston, Texas, with his older brother, sister and mother, and his quest to obtain asylum and then American citizenship. The new series presents a traditional topic about the difficulties facing Arab refugees arriving in the United States, especially with regard to their legal status and the challenge of integration and adapting to cultural, religious and linguistic differences. However, what is new in the series is that it deals with a sensitive issue from the political and social standpoints in the United States, which is the Palestinian issue.
Not only that, but also deals with it in a comic and satirical framework to discover how the American citizen views the Palestinian people and their cause through daily situations. It also shows the structural problems within American society in terms of the health insurance system and asylum laws that deprive the asylum seeker of legal work pending a decision on his application.
What is also new in this series is that despite the comedic template, it approaches realistic areas that the American drama rarely touches on in such depth with regard to the Palestinian issue, which is the space of faith and the depth of the relationship with God Almighty in the face of life's problems. Here, we discover how the metaphysical dimension of faith plays a role in the life of the hero, "Mo Al-Najjar" and the life of his mother, and how they translate this dimension in dealing with the multicultural and multi-religious society in the United States of America.
