Barcelona Football Club confirmed Thursday that Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players, will leave the club due to "financial and structural obstacles", blaming them on the financial laws imposed by the Spanish League. The club explained that this requires the team to reduce its spending.

Messi has thus become a free player and can negotiate a move to other clubs after the expiration of his contract last June. Barcelona has always confirmed that it wants the player to continue, and the media reported that Messi, 34, had agreed to renew his contract for five years.

Messi tried to leave Barcelona in August 2020 and submitted an official request to leave after breaking off relations with the club's president at the time, Josep Maria Bartomeu. but his successor, Joan Laporta, who was a witness to the story of the Argentine star's rise, convinced him to stay.

According to the newspaper, the Catalan club suffered a net loss of about 100 million euros in the 2019-2020 season, which is its first loss and resulted from the epidemic, as the value of its revenues fell to 855 million euros from the amount of one billion euros specified in its budget, the club's debts rose, according to the report, to more than one billion euros.

On the pitch, Barcelona finished in La Liga, their worst result since 2008. They have not won the Champions League, Europe's most prestigious club tournament, since 2015.

According to the Spanish program "El Chiringuito", Messi is very close to joining the ranks of Saint-Germain. "Messi has told several Saint-Germain players that he will accept Paris' offer this summer," he added. Messi has a strong friendship with Neymar da Silva, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes from Saint Germain, and some of them appeared with them in a joint photo during his last vacation in the Spanish city of Ibiza.

Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani said, in one of his tweets: “The negotiations for the PSG contract with Messi have officially ended, and the deal will be announced later.”  he will be presented on Tuesday at the Eiffel Tower and they will have a huge event with special decoration to welcome him.
