A wave of simultaneous fires that broke out in several states in Algeria caused the death of four people in the central province of Tizi Ouzou, at a time when the civil defense forces are working to extinguish about 25 fire spots in 14 provinces.
A previous statement by the Civil Defense Directorate had announced the registration of several fires in 14 governorates, including 10 fires in Tizi Ouzou, 33 in Bejaia ,4 in Jijel, two fires each in Khenchela, Keda, Setif, and Guelma . fires were also recorded in the governorates of Bordj Bou Arreridj, Boumerdes, Tiaret, Medea, Tebessa, Blida and Skikda.
The governor of the forests in the governorate of Tizi Ouzou (100 km east of Algiers), which knew the largest number of fire spots and the most affected, announced the registration of 4 deaths due to fires, which he described as dangerous. The temperature, especially since a special bulletin was issued a few days ago, warned of a high temperature, and gusts of wind contributed to its spread, according to him.
Video clips and photos that were widely circulated on social media showed the outbreak of massive fires in the mountains of Tizi Ouzou, and their tongues reached several villages and towns, prompting their owners to flee their homes.
Civil Defense interests had announced the registration of 25 fire spots, including 10 large fires in several municipalities, and firefighting units intervened to put them out.
As for the province of Medea (70 kilometers south of the capital), three people were arrested, suspected of being behind the setting fire, according to the governor of the province, which destroyed about 100 hectares of forests.
It is noteworthy that the fires have recorded great damage at the level of forested and residential areas. And it is still spreading until now due to strong winds.
schools and hotels have opened their doors to a number of residents who were evacuated after the fire approached their homes. more than a month ago, fires broke out in the forests of the state of Khenchela (northeast of Algeria), and the fire consumed more than a hectare.
and the Algerian government is heading to increase the penalty for involvement in burning forests to reach life imprisonment.
Earlier. The British newspaper “Daily Telegraph” warned of the dangers that the world is accepting as a result of the continuing severity of climate change, which began to manifest itself in the form of serious natural disasters, most notably the recent period of forest fires in Turkey, Greece and some countries, a warning that came in a report published by the newspaper entitled "The world gets a red warning card".
the report stated that the United Nations warns that the world will exceed the target set for global warming, which stipulates the Paris climate agreement to be less than 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2030, noting that climate change has already begun to cause natural disasters.
The newspaper pointed out that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said that “temperatures continue to rise, and they are now on a path that may lead them to exceed the main goal stipulated in the Paris Climate Agreement, which may have serious consequences that affect the climate around the world and extend effect on the water levels in the seas.
Professor Ed Hawkins, from Britain's University of Reading, one of the authors of the report, said that the scientists could not be more clear on this point than that.
he added: "It's a statement of the truth, we can't be more sure of that, it's unequivocal and indisputable, humans are warming the planet."
also the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, considered the report of the working group of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change today as a red alert for humanity.
Guterres said:“if we rally together now, we can avert a climate catastrophe. but, as today's report makes clear, there is no time for delay and no room for excuses. i count on government leaders and all stakeholders to ensure the success of COP 26.”
The IPCC report states, in a strong tone: "It is clear that human influence has warmed (increased temperatures) of the atmosphere, oceans and land."
hundreds of scientists and researchers participated in the preparation of this report, from 195 countries, and it consists of 42 pages, and it was titled “Summary for Policy Makers”, according to the Daily Telegraph report.
