The American series, The Sandman, launched on Netflix yesterday, and after its global premiere in London yesterday.
The special screening of the series was attended by a number of Hollywood stars, led by Neil Gaiman, the screenwriter and dialogue writer for the series and the original author of the comics. In addition to the series' protagonists; Tom Sturridge, famous for his role in the movie Remainder, Kirby Hoyle Baptiste, who is nominated for many awards for her role in the series Barry, and is known for other works such as The Good Place, and Why Women Kill, actress Vivian Achimbong, famous for her role in the movie The Witches, and Gwendolyn Christy in the series known Game of Thrones, Donna Preston, known for her role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and Julie Richardson, known for her roles in films such as Sister My Sister, and Fallen Angel, and series such as Nip/Tuck, as well as Vanesso Samoniai.
The story "The Sandman" is considered one of the most famous comic books, as it has had more than one film and television work before.The Sandman series of novels focuses on the character of Dream, one of the Seven Eternals in ancient mythology, who is also known as Morpheus, as well as other names he earned over billions of years.
The series, based on the novel series, centers around Morpheus who is accidentally involved in a mysterious ritual performed by Roderick Burgess, and is unable to escape.Once he escapes, he sets out to restore order in the Kingdom of Dreams, where he meets a variety of strange characters."The Sandman" is a story that blends horror and fantasy as Morpheus learns to adapt in the new world, and the Lucifer series is known to be derived from "The Sandman" according to the comics.
Although Netflix has previously shown the Lucifer series, it is not expected that the heroes of the popular series will appear in the series "The Sandman".
Years in the making, and painstakingly brought to life through what looks like very expensive computer imaging and intricate costuming and set design, "Sandman" has the potential to be very good, even great. It's a fantasy epic in a time when fantasy epics are the genre du jour of prestige TV. It has been shepherded to the screen by Gaiman himself. It has talented actors – Gwendoline Christie, Stephen Fry, Jenna Coleman – among its large cast.
But in spite of everything "Sandman" has going for it, it is not, in fact, a very good or great show. The series (now streaming; ½ out of four) is a middling series, made worse by wasted potential and Netflix's dollars.
Excruciatingly slow and dull if not outright boring, "Sandman" is a perplexing failure. The stories that make up the comic-book epic are sewn together haphazardly and confusingly, never building to discernible arcs and not even broken down into interesting stand-alone episodes. The series is a pile of stories and moods randomly tossed on top of each other.
Whether that's because the source material is simply too hard to adapt or because this adaptation got it wrong is unclear. What is clear is that fans of the comics are likely to be disappointed, and first-timers are likely to be confused and put off.
